Should You Upgrade to Windows Vista in 2008?

Are you seriously going to upgrade and finally make the move to Windows Vista this year in 2008? I honestly cannot answer this question until I know if it really is going to be a true "upgrade". Windows Vista visually looks a lot better than XP but will that improve my productivity for 2008? This year will be the best time to make the jump so I hear when they release Windows Vista SP1.

Vista SP1 is stated to have several improvements for Vista including support for faster wireless networking, better reliability, and increased security. This is what users need and want for 2008 to help everyone achieve the higher level of productivity this new year.

Let's quickly compare the current Windows Vista up against Windows XP.

Vista offers a different cleaner look over XP with its new icons, Windows 3D flip feature, and new panel sidebar that performs useful common functions. Downside, all of this extra jazz requires a hefty video card (128 megabyte) to run smoothly.

Windows Vista search allows you to search from virtually everywhere meaning you can search on the fly while in any application. Meanwhile, in Windows XP you're stuck with a Window Search. Vista has parental controls not found on XP that lets the computer administrator set specific boundaries for all other users, this can be only somewhat accomplished with XP with some extra time and effort in setting up user permissions. Security is about on par with the CIA infrastructure in Langley, VA, well not really, but it's getting there about as fast as last years PC's could run Windows Vista. Did I mention you need 1 gig of memory, a 1 Ghz 32-bit or 64-big processor and at least a 128 megabyte video card to run Windows Vista. That's not even saying Vista is going to run smoothly with that configuration. XP requires a mere 300 Mhz processor, 128 megabytes of RAM and a generic 800x600 resolution video card and monitor.

Let's turn on the flux capacitor and just imagine what Vista Service Pack 1 will do for computer users later in 2008. We might have a competitor for the new Mac OX or maybe businesses won't be afraid to finally make that jump. Everyone is going to want a good reliable parachute before they jump and that seems to be the bottom line.
